Pubic Symphysis pain

Symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD), also known as is a condition that causes pelvic pain, with symptoms that can vary in severity and location. Most commonly, the pain is felt at the center of the pubic bone but can also radiate to the lower back, vaginal or rectal areas, and even down the thighs. Some people may experience a grinding or clicking sensation with movement. Activities like walking, climbing stairs, putting weight on one leg, or turning over in bed can worsen the pain, and you might also have difficulty widening your legs.

SPD is particularly common during pregnancy due to the increased looseness of the ligaments around the pubic joint and pelvis. This can cause the joints to move unevenly or separate, leading to instability and pain during daily activities such as dressing, caring for your baby, or getting out of bed.

At Built to Move Physical Therapy, we specialize in treating symphysis pubis dysfunction with targeted physical therapy. Our approach helps to rebalance the pelvis, reduce pain, and strengthen the surrounding muscles to restore stability. With the right exercises and care, you can return to the activities you love, pain-free.
